A climber with angled or grooved stems. The tendrils are forked. The leaves are somewhat rounded in outline, 10 to 20 centimeters long, heart-shaped at the base, and sharply 5- or 7-angled or lobed. The male racemes have long peduncles with many flowers, which one or two open at a time, and the bracts are ovate and 3 to 4 centimeters long. The flowers are white and large. The fruits are globose, 8cm long, glabrous, red, and contain several small, brownish seeds and the fruit pedicel is 3cm long.

Antipruritic (seed oil)

Used externally to calm itchiness (seed oil); taken with wine to assuage stomachaches (seed powder)
