Description |

A prostrate, glabrous, succulent annual herb; stems often purple-tinged. Leaves broadly obovate, cuneate at base, opposite, unequally paired, to 3.5 cm long and 3 cm wide; petiole 1 to 1.8 cm long, expanded into a sheathing membranous base. Stipules triangular, acuminate. Flowers pink, or some times white, solitary, axillary, partly hidden by sheathing leaf-bases. Fruit (capsule) 0.5 cm long and 0.3 mm broad, transversely breaking into an upper coriaceous lid containing one seed and a lower membranous cup with 3 to 5 seeds; seeds dull black. |
