Sturdy glabrous shrub growing as high as 5 m. with thin brittle branches grayish-brown bark with noticeable stomata; alternate leaves and yielding a stone fruit which turns blackish when ripe.
Herb Effects
Slightly laxative and noniritating to the intestines.
For chronic atonic constipation and is also used to treat abdominal bloating, hepatitis, cirrhosis, jaundice, and liver and gall bladder complaints; to treat gum diseases and scalp infestations, or as a lotion for minor skin irritations (bark)
Contraindication
Do not use: when constipated (due to anxiety); for extended periods of time and by mothers who are breast feeding.
