A deciduous tree can grow to about 25 ft. in height. Leaves alternate, elliptic to ovate, 6-14 cm long, 3-7 cm wide, entire or sometimes with two rounded lobes. Lamina dark glossy green above, paler and slightly pubescent beneath, especially on nerves. Apex acute to acuminate. Small yellowish-green flowers in rounded heads about 1 cm across in June.
