An evergreen, robust, tomentose, perennial shrub or undershrub or sometimes herb, up to 4 m in height. Leaves very variable, usually narrowly oblong-lanceolate, sometimes oblong-ovate to oblong-obovate, 6.0-30.0 cm x 1.5-12.0 cm, with yellowish white hairs; capitula axillary or terminal; bisexual florets tubular, yellow, 4-7 mm long; female filiform, up to 6 mm long; achenes brown, pubescent, oblong, ribbed, with whitish or more often reddish yellow pappus.
Herb Effects
Lowers blood pressure (essential leaf oil) and antibacterial (against Escherichia coli)(alcohol extract of plant).
Diarrhea, cholera and body swellings due to beri-beri and rheumatism (leaf); angina, chest troubles, headache, dropsy and hypertension and as a tranquilizer (leaf extract).
