An evergreen shrub growing to 3.5 m at a medium rate. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Insects.

Diaphoretic and laxative (stem); tonic and antiperiodic (root bark); antiperiodic and anticancer, diaphoretic and antipyretic, stimulates the cardiovascular system and alleviates spasms (root).
