A small procumbent woody shrub 5-30 cm high. Bark mostly smooth and dark reddish brown, exfoliating on older stems. The leaves are evergreen, remaining green for 1-3 years before falling. The fruit is a red berry. Flower monoecious; perfect, and urn-shaped, pink to white and borne in small terminal clusters. |

For urinary tract complaints, including cystitis and urolithiasis, to treat rashes, skin sores etc, and as a wash for a baby's head, as an eyewash, a mouthwash for cankers and sore gums and as a poultice for back pains, rheumatism, burns etc. (leaves) |
| Contraindication |

|
Herb should not be used by pregnant women and should not be taken by people with kidney problems. Avoid taking acidic agents such as vitamin C or fruit juice, while using uva ursi. |
