A medium-sized tree. Leaves dark green and shining, elliptic-obovate, 5 to 13 cm long and 2.5 to 7.5 cm wide. Male flowers fascicled; female flowers solitary. Fruit berry, ovoid, yellow or red when ripe, 6 to 8 grooves. Seeds 6 to 8 surrounded by succulent aril.

Medicinal Use
Problems of the bowel and in rheumatism (fruit rind decoction); able to decrease the acidity and to increase the mucosal defence in the gastric areas, thereby justifying its use as an antiulcerogenic agent, as a heart tonic and lowers the production of triglycerides and cholesterol. It also has the ability to slow production of fat and help the body metabolize it more efficiently.
Contraindication
Individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus should use extreme caution in taking
Garcinia cambogia/HCA due to its glycemic action. Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other
dementia syndromes should avoid using HCA due to the possibility of forming acetylcholine in the
brain. Pregnant and lactating women should also avoid using any supplements containing Garcinia cambogia/HCA.
