A spinescent, copiously branched herb, 30-45 cm in height. Leaves simple, sessile, ovate elongate, base sub-auriculate, basal leaves 6.25-7.5 cm long, apical leaves 2.5 cm long. Florets orange-yellow in terminal homogamous heads; fruit an ellipsoid cypsella with brown to grey seeds.

Hinesol-beta-D-fucopyranoside (aerial part); sesquiterpine glucosides (plant).

As a dressing for bad ulcers and as a remedy for itch (seed oil); cures liver diseases and joint pains.
