A moderate-sized deciduous tree, up to 18 m in height and 2.7 m in girth, with a short stout bole. Bark dark grey or blackish, viscous and aromatic when cut; leaves pinnate : leaflets lanceolate, 7-12 cm long; flowers in panicles, small, reddish; drupe globose, c. 6 mm in diam., rugose, grey when ripe.
