A large, evergreen tree, with a straight, cylindrical bole, 16-33 m in height and up to 2 m in girth. Bark moderately thick, corky; leaves coriaceous, elliptic, obovate-oblong or oblong-lanceolate; flowers white, in cymes; berries red, globose, fleshy, 1-seeded, smooth.
