A shrub or a tree up to 18 m in height armed with strong conical spines 7 cm long. Bark grey or brown, exfoliating in irregular flakes; leaves 7.5-15 cm long, rigidly coriaceous, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, acute or acuminate; flowers unisexual, small, yellow in clusters on long, terminal or axillary paniculate spikes; drupes globose fleshy, purple-black, 1-2 seeded, edible. |
