An erect, annual herb with stout, quadrangular stems, c 30-60 cm in height. Leaves 5.0-7.5 cm long, rugose, ovate-oblong or rounded obtuse; flowers pale purple, in long-peduncled spikes; nutlets brown, compressed.
Herb Effects
Antibacterial, stimulant, expectorant and diaphoretic (plant); anticephalagic (leaf); the oil possesses direct muscle-relaxant action and also bactericidal and fungicidal properties, and may prove useful as an anti-spasmodic drug and as a clinical fungicide.
As an expectorant (oil from plant) and in headaches (leaf); used to relieve urticaria associated with liver disorders and other allergic manifestations, for cough and cold (fresh leaves juice).
