Annual the root consisting of numerous white fibres and the round or slightly angular stem erect 6 inches to nearly 1 foot in height often branching at the top is frequently purple in colour. Leaves are green, 2 to 4 inches long, and lobed. Flower heads occur in clusters, with each flower head being composed of many small disk flowers. Each flower head is yellow, 1/4 to 1/2 inch long, and cigar shaped.
