Evergreen climbing shrub. Leaves 4.5-10 cm long, 3-6.5 cm broad, ovate, entire, subacuminate, base cuneate, rounded or subcordate, glabrous, basal nerves 3; undulate; petiole 1-2.5 cm long. Flowers yellow, bracteate, in elongate, lax, axillary raceme-like panicles, 7.5-15 cm long; branches of panicles 2.5-3.5 cm long bearing 1 female and 3-7 male flowers. Male flowers sepals 6, in 2 series, the outer ones small, the inner larger, oblong, obtuse; petals 6, very small, ovate, obovate, or orbicular, slightly emarginate, much shorter than the stamens; stamens 6, free; anthers introrse, dehiscing longitudinally. Female flowers both sepals and petals same as in the male; carpels 6-12, on short gynophores. Drupes obovoid, 1.5 cm long, 1 cm broad, stipitate, subcompressed, style scar subbasal, obscurely ribbed, grooved on both sides, orange or red. Seeds uncinate, albumen ruminate. |
