Herbs perennial. Stems 30-150 cm, erect, corymbose-branched above middle or only in upper part, pilose, especially in upper part and on inflorescence-branches. Basal and proximal stem leaves withered by anthesis; middle stem leaves with petiole 0.5-1 cm; leaf blade ovate, broadly ovate, elliptic-ovate, long-elliptic, or ovate-lanceolate, 2-7 X 1.5-4.5 cm, both surfaces concolorous [color??] or nearly so, bipinnatisect, bipinnatiparted, or inconspicuously bipinnatipartite; primary lateral segments 2 or 3(or 4) pairs; ultimate lobes elliptic. Distal stem leaves and leaves below inflorescence small, tripartite or entire. Capitula 1-1.5 cm in diam.; laxly or densely corymbose. Involucres coryliform, 5-7 mm in diam.; phyllaries in 5 rows, margin white or pale brown scarious, outer ones linear or linear-oblong, ca. 2.5 mm, abaxially sparsely pilose, middle and inner ones ovate, long-elliptic, or oblanceolate, ca. 4.5 mm. Ray florets yellow; rays 5-7.5 mm. Achenes 1.2-1.5 mm. |

The flowers are bactericidal, inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus, E. coli, streptococcus, C. diphtheriae, Bacillus dysenteriae. They are also used in the treatment of furuncle, scrofula, deep-rooted boils, inflammation of the throat, eyes and cervix, eczema, itchiness of the skin and hypertension. |
