General Info
Description
An evergreen slow growing and clumping bamboo growing to 6-8 metres. Leaves are narrow and dark green, to 5 inches long. New canes are green, turning black the second year. Flowers are hermaphrodite.
Herb Effects
Antipyretic and diuretic (leaves); antipyretic, antitussive, expectorant and sedative (juice of the stems); antiemetic and sedative (epidermis of the stem bark); astringent, antipyretic, depurative, diuretic and styptic (roots).
The leaves are used internally in the treatment of fevers (especially infantile convulsions), vomiting and nosebleeds. The juice of the stems is taken internally in the treatment of lung infections with cough and phlegm. The epidermis of the stem bark is used internally in the treatment of vomiting, nosebleeds, coughs etc. The roots are used in the treatment of rabies. A decoction of root is used in the treatment of high fevers and nocturnal fretfulness in infants
