A perennial plant growing to 0.6m. Leaves alternate and simple; stipules are absent. Spadix is rugose ending in a tail 20/30 cm long; and the peduncle is shorter than the petiole. Flowers are dioecious.

Alterative, anaesthetic, deobstruent, discutient, diuretic, expectorant, vulnerary (roots); analgesic, local anesthetic and antispasmodic (decoction of roots).
The roots has been used for apoplexy (brain hemorrhage/stroke), epilepsy and hemiplegia. It is pounded and mixed with vinegar or oil and applied to swellings or small tumors.
