A hairy shrub reaching a height of about 3 meters. Leaves are alternate, pinnate, and about 30 centimeters or more in length. The leaflets are 4 to 10 centimeters in length, pointed at the apex and rounded or pointed at the base, and have prominently toothed margins. Flowers are small, reddish, and occur in axillary inflorescences. Fruit is oval, black, smooth, reticulated, and about 0.5 centimeter in length.
The plants are used for diarrhea, intermittent fever, and worm trouble. The fruit is used to treat stomach ache. The seeds are used in malaria, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, and chronic dysentery.
