A dense, perennial,leafy grass, with short horizontal stems. It creeps and branches below. The flowering stems are erect, from 20 to 60 centimeters in height. Leaves are short and linear-lanceolate, from 3 to 10 centimeters long, and 4 to 6 centimeters wide. Panicles are purplish, and are open, with few whorled branches, 5 centimeters long, or less, bearing few-flowered spikes. The sessile spikelet is very narrow, and about 3 millimeters long; the callus is elongated, barbed, the fourth glume being linear, acuminate, and bearing a short, scabrid awn. |
