A woody climber up to 15 m long, older stems very prominently tuberculate and producing very long filiform aerial roots. Leaves broadly ovate to orbicular, 7-14(-25) cm x 6-12(-24) cm, without domatia. Inflorescences appearing when plant is leafless; flowers usually with 3 petals. Fruit ellipsoidal, about 2 cm long, orange.
Herb Effects
Acts as a vermifuge, antipyretic and anti-malaria (infusion of the stem).
Used in the treatment of high blood pressure, diabetes and to relieve abdominal pains (plant); to treat cholera and diabetes mellitus, and externally applied against scabies and to heal wounds (infusion of the plant); to treat jaundice, cholera, malaria, and against worms in children (infusion of the stem).
Contraindication
Avoid giving to pregnant women and nursing mothers.
