A tree, up to 25 m tall; trunk up to 30 cm in diameter, smooth and slightly fluted; branches verticillate, diverging horizontally from trunk with upper half drooping. Leaves alternate, simple, entire; petiole 7-27 mm long; blade obovate to elliptical, 8-40 cm x 3-13 cm. Flowers solitary or few together; pedicel 1-1.5 cm long; calyx infundibuliform, irregularly lobed, 1-2 cm long, persistent and accrescent (up to 2.5 cm length) in fruit; petals 5, spatulate, 1.5-4 cm long, white when fresh, sepia-brown when dried, moderately to densely pubescent; staminal column cylindrical, 1.5-3.5 cm long; style filiform, 1.5-3.5 cm long, stigma capitate.
