An erect herb up to 0.5 m high. Leaves simple, penniveined, aromatic, opposite or in whorls of up to 3, up to 60 mm long and 20 mm broad, margins serrate-crenate. Flowers axillary, solitary or sometimes in terminal or lateral leafy racemes; pedicels slender, up to 30 mm long, remaining divergent erect in the fruit; bracteoles 1.5-3 mm long, linear-lanceolate, appressed; calyx 4-7 mm long, the lobe greater than half the length of the calyx, striate in the fruit; corolla 11-18 mm long, purple with a yellow throat; stamens without an expanded connective. Capsule broadly ellipsoid, compressed, 5—6 mm long, brown. Seeds pale to dark brown, 0.25-0-4 mm long, excarunculate. |
