A tree growing 8 to 15 meters high. Leaves are broadly ovate, 10 to 20 cm long, with pointed tips and heart-shaped bases. Flowers are pink, about 8 mm long, borne on panicles 20-40 cm long, terminating the branches. Fruit is thin-walled, inflated capsule, about 2 cm long.
