General Info
Description
A climber up to 20 m long, with terete, slightly furrowed branches up to 5 mm in diameter. Leaves are simple, oval to oblong, 6- 25 cm long by 4-10 cm wide, tip abruptly pointed, base deeply heart- shaped and alternately arranged. Flowers are bisexual, with three perianths that unite into a slender tube of about 7 cm long. Fruits are globular capsule of 3.5 cm diameter on a 2.5 cm stalk.

As a tonic, carminative and emmenagogue (powdered roots)
Used to treat infantile tympanites (powdered roots); applied to the head to treat fever (pounded leaves); leaves ground with Curcuma are warmed and applied externally to treat swollen limbs, colics and skin diseases.
