An erect, perennial herb, growing up to 1.3 m tall. Leaves are ovate-oblong, 60 cm x 12 cm, margin finely dentate-ciliate, apex acuminate, glabrous. Inflorescence is terminal, spike-like, each bract with 4 flowers; flower 3 cm wide, white-reddish. Fruit is a globose capsule, up to 1 cm in diameter, with brittle, whitish pericarp. Seeds are 5-7 in no., three-angled, compressed, slightly lobed at top, greyish and aromatic.
