General Info
Description
A tree that grows up to a height of 8m. Bole is straight and coarsely fluted. Bark is smooth with white latex. Leaves are simple, exstipulate, and whorled. petiole is 1.3cm long and channeled above. Blade is elliptic, lanceolate, thinly coriaceous, 14.2cm × 3.8cm – 18cm × 5.5cm, and shows 22 pairs of secondary nerves which are conspicuously spaced. Flowers are salver-shaped, membranous, and cream.

Abortifacient (decoction of the plant); bitter tonic and astringent (bark)
Used to treat stomach and intestinal discomfort (bark); to treat a bad cough and sore throat (decoction of the leaves and bark); to treat malarial fever and asthma (decoction of the leaves); applied on tropical ulcers (stem sap).
