A large, scandent, prickly shrub or climber, up to 10 m in Height. Bark dark brown with numerous recurved prickles; branchlets glossy, occasionally lenticellate, armed with 4-5 mm long recurved prickles. Leaves bipinnate with prickles, pinnae 8-13 pairs, 4-5 cm long, leaflets 9-12 pairs per pinna, membranous, oblique-truncate; flowers small, yellow with a red dot at the base or red veined, in axillary and terminal racemes combined into a 30-40 cm long panicle, pods short-beaked, 1-4 seeded, often constricted; seeds dark brown, sub-globose, hard.
