A tripical medium sized deciduous tree. Leaves alternate, palmate. Flowers appear in large erect terminal panicles, yellow brown, and small. Male and hermophrodite blooms are intermingled. No corolla, the calyx is bell shaped, leathery, fine toothed. Fruit is star shaped, densely covered with stinging hairs.
Herb Effects
Against pneumonia (mucilage of leaf and tender shoot).
Throat problems (gum). Gum is cooling and is used for making sweetmeats; mucilage has no adhesive power. The gum exudate has laxative properties. Used to treat throat infection and in dental fixtures.
