Health Remedies - Bronchial Catarrh
Bronchial catarrh is the acute inflammation of the mucous membranes of the bronchi, a tubular airway in the respiratory tract that conducts air into the lungs. Bronchial catarrh is the common term for acute bronchitis. It is usually caused by an infection. The common symptoms include coughing up of mucus, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain, soreness, and constricted feeling in the chest. There may be generalized ill feeling, fever and chills. Symptoms usually subside within 7 to 14 days in the absence of prior chronic pulmonary disease. However, in some patients, it commonly takes much longer for the cough to go completely away.
In the treatment of chronic coughs and bronchial catarrh (root juice); with camphor for rheumatism and stiff joints; dissolves gall stones (seed oil). It is dropped into the ear to relieve earaches.
Checks bleeding, soothes irritated tissues and relaxes spasms, excessive and painful menstruation, cystitis, gonorrhea, feverish illnesses, bronchial catarrh, coughs, diabetes and to promote hair growth. The flowers are used in the treatment of carbuncles, mumps, fever and sores.
In dysentery and irritable bowel syndrome, as an astringent and a narcotic (rhizome); for gastrointestinal disorders and jaundice; to treat bronchial catarrh and kidney pain and can be taken as a gargle for sore throats (root decoction); in the treatment of insomnia and anxiety (flower).
The plant is used internally in the treatment of dry coughs, whooping cough, bronchitis, bronchial catarrh, cold, asthma, laryngitis, indigestion, gastritis and diarrhoea and enuresis in children. Externally, it is used in the treatment of tonsillitis, gum diseases, rheumatism, arthritis and fungal infections (Athlete's foot).The whole herb is used in the treatment of digestive disorders, sore throats, fevers etc.
