Health Remedies - Blackwater Fever
Blackwater fever is a complication of malaria. It is caused by heavy parasitization of red blood cells with Plasmodium falciparum. Symptoms include fever, tender and enlarged liver and spleen, dark urine, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and jaundice. It may also lead to kidney failure.The urine is dark in colour due to the presence of hemoglobin in urine (haemoglobinuria) and hence the name blackwater fever. In addition to drug therapy, people with blackwater fever may require exchange blood transfusions in an effort to get rid of infected red blood cells and replace them with healthy cells.
