People with weakened or suppressed immune systems also are at higher risk of developing maningitis. The patient usually begins to feel vaguely unwell and may develop headache and fever. In later stages, the patient may have neck and back stiffness, severe headache, and drowsiness. They may also have diarrhea, vomiting, rashes, seizures, rapid breathing and confusion may occur.
