Health Remedies - Peritonitis |
|
|
Peritonitis is an inflammation of the lining of the abdominal cavity, known as the peritoneum. The peritoneum, a thin, clear membrane, normally covers all the abdominal organs and the inside walls of the abdomen. Usually peritonitis occurs due to bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract which may result as a complication of appendicitis, diverticulitis, peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, strangulated obstruction, abdominal neoplasm, or a stab wound. The common symptoms of peritonitis are abdominal pain, swelling or bloating of abdomen, nausea, vomiting, weakness, pale and cold skin, chills and fever, with profuse perspiration and low urine output. Peritonitis may lead to serious complications such as arrest of bowel movements, septic shock, abscess and intraperitoneal adhesions. |
