A blister is a small pocket of fluid within the upper layers of the skin. Sometimes the lump is filled with blood. It is a defense mechanism of the skin. Blisters can be caused by chemical or physical injury. Physical injury can be caused by heat, frostbite, or friction. Blisters most often occur from shoes or clothing which rubs repeatedly on the skin causing friction burns. |
