Drugs are an important and common cause of hepatic injury. More than 900 drugs, toxins, and herbs have been reported to cause liver injury, and drugs account for many instances of fulminant hepatic failure. Drug-induced liver disease can mimic viral hepatitis, biliary tract obstruction, or other types of liver disease. Some of the important drugs which cause liver damage in excessive doses are halothane, valproic acid, acetaminophen, diclofenac, tolcapone, nitrofurantoin, sulindac, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, isoniazid, salicylates, methotrexate, niacin, tetracycline, allopurinol, ibuprofen, ritonavir, flutamide, dapsone, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, terbinafine etc. |
