Menopause is physiologic cessation of menses associated with advancing age in women. The average onset of menopause is 52 years. The common symptoms include hot flashes or night sweats, vaginal dryness, vaginal itching, abnormal vaginal bleeding, urinary urgency, urinary incontinence, osteoporosis, breast atrophy, decreased libido, palpitations, mood disturbances and fatigue. Menopause is suspected when there is a long interval without periods in a woman around the age of 50, particularly if a woman has hot flashes or a low estrogen profile. |
