A palpitation is an awareness or physical sensation of the beating of the heart, whether it is too slow, too fast, irregular, or at its normal frequency. Palpitation may occur in normal conditions due to stress, alcoholism, excessive caffeine, increased physical activity etc. It may also indicate serious heart diseases such as heart blocks and mitral valve prolapse, thyroid disorders etc.
