An erect annual herb, 1 m tall, glandular-pubescent. Leaves 0.8 to 6.5 cm long and 0.6 to 6.5 cm wide, ovate-suborbicular, 3 to 5 lobed, base cordate, apex acute, margins dentate, hairy aw both surface, petioles 0.5 to 6.0 cm long; stipules 2 mm long. Flowers solitary or paired, axillary, fragrant, pink or white; bracteoles 10 to 12; sepals lanceolate. Fruits 2-chambered. Seeds one in each chamber, single, oily, brown.

Roots are cooling, demulcent, carminative, diaphoretic and diuretic; alleviates spasms and antiprotozoal (plant); reduces fever and astringent (root). Leaves and young shoots are used as an emollient.

In dysentery, inflammation, intestinal bleeding, increasing the secretion of gastric juices, reducing fever and as a tonic (root); rheumatism (plant).
