Description

A compact, hairy shrub-like perennial herb. Roots are perennial and creeping, the square stem, 6 to 18 inches high, erect, much branched, leafy. Leaves opposite, dark green, 1/2 to 1 1/2 inch long and indented, somewhat like an oak leaf. Flowers rose-coloured, labiate, occurs in three to six flowered whorls, in the axils of leafy bracts, and in leafy, terminal spikes.

Pharmacology

Medicinal Use

The whole plant is specific for the treatment of gout. It is used internally for weight loss, weak stomachs and lack of appetite, and externally as an astringent infusion on the gums and also in the treatment of wounds.
