An irritant is an agent that causes irritation and inflammation of the skin or mucus membrane.

Plants having 'Irritant' activity

Euphorbia cyparissias

Allergenic, carcinogenic, diuretic, immunostimulant, irritant, laxative and toxic.

Euphorbia resinifera

Abortifacient, carcinogenic, emetic, immunostimulant, irritant, laxative, rubefacient, sialagogue, toxic and vesicant.

Gloriosa superba

Ayurveda uses its roots as abortifacient, acrid, alexiteric, anthelmintic, antipyretic, bitter, depurative, digestive, emetic, expectorant, gastrointestinal irritant, purgative, rejuvenative, stomachic, thermogenic, tonic, in dealing debility, dyspepsia, flatulence, haemorrhoids, helminthiasis, inflammations, in promoting labour pain and expulsion of the placenta; stimulates uterine contractions (fresh plant juice and rhizome); antimalarial and laxative (tuber).

Helleborus niger

Anthelmintic, cardiac, cathartic, diuretic, emetic, emmenagogue, irritant, violently narcotic and a drastic purgative (root)

Juniperus sabina

Abortifacient, diuretic, emetic, powerfully emmenagogue, irritant and anthelmintic (young shoots)

Kalanchoe crenata

Used for its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and counter-irritant properties (juice of leaves); abortifacient (roots).

Mentha spicata

Counter-irritant (oil); antispasmodic, stimulant, carminative and antispasmodic (plant).

Nicotiana tobacum

Plumbago indica

Acts as a counter-irritant and abortifacient (roots); vesicant (root-bark); emmenagogue, stomachic and carminative (dried roots).

Podophyllum hexandrum

Serenoa serrulata

Digestive, diuretic, irritant, respiratory, sedative, stimulant, enhances male sex hormones, tones bladder.

Syzygium aromaticum

Vallaris solanacea

Astringent, bitter (bark); cardiotonic (seed); irritant (plant juice).

Zanthoxylum americanum

Irritant, odontalgic and antirheumatic (bark and roots); diaphoretic, stimulant, antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic and antirheumatic (fruits).

Zanthoxylum clava-herculis

Irritant, odontalgic and antirheumatic (bark and roots); diaphoretic, stimulant, antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic and antirheumatic (fruits).
