Spermatorrhea is the frequent involuntary discharge of semen without orgasm. It occurs commonly during sleep and such a condition is known as "nocturnal emission". The most commonest cause is excessive masturbation or sexual intercourse. Other causes include such as anxiety, poor diet, erotic thought or visual stimulation, inefficient digestive system and general weakness.

Useful herbs

Anemarrhena asphodeloides

For fevers accompanied with dryness in the lungs, stomach or kidneys, ulcers, cancer, childbirth, cough, diabetes, dysentery, fever, hyperglycemia, inflammation, lumbago, morning sickness, osteosis, pneumonia, scarlet fever, spermatorrhea, tuberculosis, typhoid, typhus, vertigo.

Cornus chinensis

Used principally to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding and unusually active secretions including copious sweating, excessive urine, spermatorrhoea and premature ejaculation (herb); for the treatment of arthritis, fever and a wide range of other ailments (fruit, without the seed)

Cornus officinalis

To reduce heavy menstrual bleeding and unusually active secretions including copious sweating, excessive urine, spermatorrhoea and premature ejaculation (herb); for the treatment of arthritis, fever and a wide range of other ailments (fruit); for allergy, backache, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, menorrhagia, nephrosis, night sweats, vertigo.

Dioscorea japonica

For diarrhoea, enteritis, enuresis and spermatorrhoea (tubers); as contraceptives and in the treatment of various disorders of the genitary organs as well as in a host of other diseases such as asthma and arthritis (roots)

Diospyros peregrina

For wounds and ulcers;in vitiated conditions of pitta, burning sensation, inflammations, diarrhea, dysentery, leprosy, skin diseases, pruritus, dyspepsia, haemorrhages, burns, diabetes, fever, spermatorrhea and vaginal disorders (bark); in strangury, dyspepsia, flatulence, scotoma, nyctalopia, opthalamia, epistaxis, haemoptysis, burns, tubercular glands, scabies and wounds (leaves); in leucorrhoea, urethrorrhea, splenomegaly, nyctalopia, anaemia and scabies (flowers).

Dipsacus japonicus

In the treatment of rheumatoid arthralgia, traumatic injuries, backache and weak knees, seminal emissions, polyuria and also to secure abortions (root)

Ficus glomerata

Bilious affections and bronchitis (leaves); in amenorrhea and haemoptysis (fruits). Tribal systems of medicine employ it for diabetes, dysentery, pulmonary diseases, boils, adenitis axillaris, epidydimitis, hydrocele, orchitis, muscular pain, scabies, menorrahgia, spermatorrhoea, piles, bronchitis, leprosy, urinary complaints, sinus, oedema, impurities of blood, thrombophlebitis, syncope, bile disorders and menstrual disorders.

Ficus religiosa

For skin diseases (leaf), dysentery, diarrhea and gonorrhea (bark decoction); in heart arrhythmia and sexual disorders, such as spermatorrhea and premature ejaculation, as an astringent (bark),in anal fistula, ulcer and wounds as an absorbent in inflammatory swellings (dried bark),for inflammatory ulcers (tender fresh leaves),in stomach ache and constipation (ripe fruits). The aerial roots are chewed by women to induce conception.

Hygrophila auriculata

As an aphrodisiac and a tonic (seed); in cancer and tubercular fistula (plant); in urogenital disorders (such as spermatorrhea) and impotence, as a uterine sedative for pregnant women and for treating diseases of the blood and biliousness, to treat rheumatism, gonorrhoea, jaundice, anasarca, diarrhoea, dysentery, thirst, urinary calculi and urinary discharges, inflammations, biliousness, diseases of the eyes, pains, high blood pressure, ascites and abdominal troubles, anaemia, constipation and anuria.

Lawsonia inermis

As an emmenagogue, in aching joints, bee stings, boils, burns, candida, condyloma, dermatosis, fever, headache, herpes, hoarseness, hysteria, jaundice, leucorrhea, myalgia, ophthalmia, parturition, spermatorrhea rheumatism, skin irritation, sores, stomach. The leaves and seeds are used in the form of juice, decoction and powder to treat consumption, diabetes and intrinsic haemorrhage. Paste of the leaves are applied externally in case of skin diseases, fungal infections, cracks on feet. It is employed both internally and locally in jaundice, leprosy, smallpox, and affections of the skin. The fruit has emmenagogue properties. The bark is useful in treating jaundice and enlargement of spleen, calculous affection, as alterative and in skin diseases and leprosy. The leaves are useful in menorrhagia, leucorrhoea and are also applied externally in headache. A decoction of leaves are used as an astringent. The leaf juice mixed with water and sugar is given in spermatorrhoea. The leaves are prophylactic against skin diseases. It is also used for typhoid and haemorrhagic conditions.

Mucuna pruriens

To treat roundworm, sterility, difficult urination and emaciation (seed and root);useful in increasing sperm count, ovulation in women, etc.; in leucorrhoea, menorrhagia, spermatorrhoea, Parkinson's (seed); in facial paralysis and nervous disorders (root); purifies the blood, cures rheumatism, asthma, cough, stone in the bladder and improves vitality (root decoction). Leaf paste is applied to ulcers. This herb is being investigated as a possible remedy for AIDS.

Nelumbo nucifera

A decoction of the flowers is used in the treatment of premature ejaculation. A decoction of the floral receptacle is used in the treatment of abdominal cramps, bloody discharges etc. The flower stalk is haemostatic. It is used in treating bleeding gastric ulcers, excessive menstruation, post-partum haemorrhage. The stamens are used in treating urinary frequency, premature ejaculation, haemolysis, epistaxis and uterine bleeding. A decoction of the fruit is used in the treatment of agitation, fever, heart complaints etc. The seed is sedative. It is used in the treatment of poor digestion, enteritis, chronic diarrhoea, insomnia, palpitations etc. The plumule and radicle are used to treat thirst in high febrile disease, hypertension, insomnia and restlessness. The root is tonic. The root starch is used in the treatment of diarrhoea, dysentery and a paste is applied to ringworm and other skin ailments. It is also taken internally in the treatment of haemorrhages, excessive menstruation and nosebleeds. The root nodes are used in the treatment of nasal bleeding, haemoptysis, haematuria and functional bleeding of the uterus. The plant is a folk folk remedy for cancer, modern research has isolated certain compounds from the plant that show anticancer activity. Embryos are used for reducing fever, for treating cholera, haemoptysis, spematorrhoea and syphilis.

Pedalium murex

For external ulcers (leaf); in incontinence of urine, spermatorrhoea, nocturnal emission, impotence, alleviating spasms (fruit) in gonorrhoea and dysuria (stem and leaves infusion).

Rauvolfia serpentina

Removing corneal opacity (leaf); central nervous system disorders including various mental problems, anthelmintic, intestinal problems (including dysentery) and lowering blood pressure (root), bile vomiting, blood dysentery, chickenpox, cough, dog-bite, fever, gastric problems, headache, insanity, insomnia, prolapse of rectum, rheumatism / rheumatoid arthritis and spermatorrhoea.

Sida cordata

For wounds and in diarrhea (leaf); in spermatorrhea (plant juice).

Sida cordifolia

Spermatorrhea, polyuria and leucorrhea (plant); aphrodisiac (seed); reducing fever (root); sciatica, in paralysis and other nervous disorders (root bark); used to detoxify the body (in fever and rheumatism), in asthma, bronchitis, obesity, aching joints and bones, edema, cough, cold and wheezing (plant extract).

Smilax zeylanica

Rheumatism, spermatorrhoea, dysentery and in venereal diseases (root). A decoction of the bulbous roots is used to promote healing of sores, swellings and abscesses. In Ayurvedic practice, the roots are used to treat diseases of the nervous system and urinary disorders.

Solanum trilobatum

Bronchitis (plant); cough (flower and fruit); indigestion, spermatorrhoea and fatigue (leaves); in rheumatism and constipation (Dried and powdered fruit); If used as ear drops the leaf juices cures otorrhoea.

Solena amplexicaulis

In spermatorrhea, gonorrhea and as a stimulant (root); antiinflammatory (leaf).

Strychnos nux-vomica

For epilepsy and dysentery (stem bark); as a nervine tonic, in paralysis (due to lead poisoning), neuralgia, chorea, debility, impotence, spermatorrhea, rectal prolapses, blindness, heartburn, incontinence (urinary), rashes (from syphilis and leprosy); to treat fever, lack of digestive power, in atonic dyspepsia (seed powder).

Toona sinensis

Used to treat red spots on skin and as a remedy for gynecological troubles, including irregular menses (bark); to treat diarrhoea, chronic dysentery, flatulence, bloody stools, seminal emissions, leucorrhoea, metrorrhagia and gonorrhoea (decoction of bark); used to cool and to promote urination (powdered roots); chewed to stimulate digestion (young leaves).
