Useful herbs

Acacia greggii

For conjunctivitis (pods); diarrhea and dysentery; superficial bleeding and can also be dusted into moist, chafed body folds and dusted on infants for diaper rash (powder); for the stomach and esophagus in nausea, vomiting, and hangovers (flowers and leaves); for sore throat and mouth inflammations as well as dry raspy coughing (root).

Aloe vera

As a tonic, in amenorrhea, asthma, boils, bruises, burns (including those from radiation), stomach cancer, common cold, cough, digestive disorders, fever, hemorrhages, hysteria, inflammation, eye problems, jaundice, cirrhosis, hepatitis, stomach ulcers, colitis, wound, scald, dry skin, conjunctivitis, psoriasis, hair fall, rosacea, warts and eczema; prevents opportunistic infections in cases of HIV and AIDS.

Baliospermum montanum

Rheumatism (seed oil); snakebite antidote (seed); to treat piles, anaemia, jaundice, skin diseases, cyst, as purgative, wound, conjunctivitis, diabetes, numbness, dropsy, general anasarca, asthma.

Begonia picta

As a remedy for colic and dysentery; to relieve headaches (plant juice); as an eye wash to treat conjunctivitis (root juice)

Cassia absus

For conjunctivitis and skin diseases (leaf and seed); found efficacious in cases of ringworm, and form one of the ingredients of aphrodisiacs (seeds).

Coptis deltoidea

In the treatment of diarrhoea, acute enteritis, dysentery, insomnia, fidgets, delirium due to high fever, inflammation of the mouth and tongue, leukaemia, conjunctivitis and otitis media, increases the phagocytosis of white blood cells on Staphylococcus aureus, is antihypertensive by dilating the coronary artery and blood vessels of the internal viscera, relaxes the smooth muscles of the blood vessels and excites the smooth muscles of the uterus, bronchi, stomach, intestines and urinary bladder (root).

Cyperus rotundus

Snakebite, problems with the bowel and jaundice (root); as an emmenagogue (tuber); conjunctivitis (MeOH extract of root followed by an extract with water), powder and decoction to treat fever, diarrhoea, erysipelas, rheumatic ailments, alcoholism, loose teeth, cough, vomiting, thirst, epilepsy, wound due to accident and eye diseases. It strengthens the digestive system and hence is a good appetizer.

Euphorbia resinifera

For bronchosis, cancer, catarrh, conjunctivosis, constipation, dermatosis, diarrhea, dropsy, dysmenorrhea, epistaxis, gout, headache, otosis, plantar wart, respirosis, sore, ulcer.

Hedeoma pulegioides

In the treatment of digestive disorders, colds, whooping cough, painful menstruation and as an aid in childbirth, for sprains, rheumatism, allergy, burn, conjunctivosis, cramps, dysentery, fever, gout, headache, hepatosis, leukorrhea, pertussis, pharyngosis, pneumonia.

Luffa acutangula

In granular conjunctivitis of children, as poultice in haemorrhoids, leprosy and splenic enlargement (leaves); as an antidote for snake poison (plant).

Mirabilis jalapa

It is used in the treatment of dropsy. The leaves are used to reduce inflammation. A decoction of them is used to treat abscesses. The leaf juice is used to treat wounds, conjunctivitis, edema, diarrhoea, indigestion,fungal infections, inflammation, pains and swellings.A paste of the root is applied as a poultice to treat scabies and muscular swellings.

Rhus coriaria

In the treatment of dysentery, haemoptysis and conjunctivitis (leaves and seeds)

Symplocos racemosa

Diarrhoea and dysentery, liver complaints and dropsy, to stop bleeding of gums, it is used also in ophthalmia and conjunctivitis (bark). In combination with sugar it is recommended in the treatment of menorrhagia and other uterine disorders

Tagetes erecta

Diseases of the eye and hemorrhoids (flower); rheumatism, bronchitis and colds (plant); as a laxative (root). It is used internally in the treatment of indigestion, colic, severe constipation, coughs and dysentery. Externally, it is used to treat sores, ulcers, eczema, sore eyes and rheumatism. A decoction of the flowers is used to treat colds, conjunctivitis, mumps, sore eyes etc.

Vernonia cinerea

Useful for the purifying the blood, bile and semen, used as a specific for leucorrhoea, menorrhagia, and in the treatment of chronic skin diseases, dysuria, strangury, bladder stones, piles, worms and haematological disorders (plant); for the treatment of amoebiosis, humid herpes, eczema and ringworm and for the extraction of guinea worms, elephantiasis (leaf juice); to treat fevers, rheumatism and conjunctivitis (flowers); effective against roundworms and threadworms, leucoderma, psoriasis and other chronic skin diseases (seeds).
