Abelmoschus esculentus

Abelmoschus moschatus

Stomach disorders,hysteria and as an aphrodisiac (seed); venereal diseases and sexual disorders (in men).The roots, seeds, and sometimes leaves, are used in traditional Indian medicines for a variety of illnesses including intestinal complaints, constipation, dyspepsia, and gonorrhea (Oudhia, 2001a).Roots and leaves are cures for gonorrhea (Agharkar 1991). Even use against venomous reptiles has been reported (Lindley 1985). The poultice of leaves and roots are used for boils, cystitis, fever, headache, rheumatism and vericose vein.

Abutilon indicum

In fevers, chest affections, gonorrhoea and urethritis (infusion of leaves and roots); used as an eyewash and as a mouthwash in toothache, tender gums, in gonorrhoea and for the inflammation of the bladder (leaf decoction); ; to boils and ulcers (flowers); used in piles and coughs (seed decoction); used in relieving strangury, haematuria and leprosy (root infusion).

Acacia catechu

Leprosy (root decoction. leaf. bark and fruit); in skin diseases and ulcers, chronic diarrhea, bleeding of the uterus and nose, mucosal discharges (such as leucorrhea) and hoarseness, gonorrhea (flowers), rheumatism and tooth ache (root), asthma, bronchitis, chest pain, sore in mouth (plant).

Acacia nilotica

In asthma (gum, bark and leaf); ophthalmia (and other eye problems) and “sexual weakness” (leaf decoction); diabetes, dysentery and diarrhea, bronchitis and skin maladies (bark); headache, urinary problems, sore throat and gonorrhea (leaf); as a toothbrush; Tender growing tops rubbed into a paste with sugar and water act as demulcent in coughs.

Acacia senegal

Cucurbita maxima

Strangury, urinary affections and gonorrhea (plant); neuralgia and migraine (seed oil). As a remedy for intestinal tapeworms and roundworms , the seeds are less potent than the root of Dryopteris felix-mas, but safer for pregnant women, debilitated patients and children. For lumbago, rheumatism, external pains, sores and ulcers, soles of the feet when cracked or inflamed and toothache (latex); in diarrhea and dysentery (bark and young bud infusion); as a poultice in abscesses (heated leaves); in diabetes (bark); as a tonic (bark and seed); in vomiting, to scalp to grow hair long (paste) and for menorrhagia (root); in gonorrhoea (root-fibres); is good tonic, effective in diabetes, dysentery, gonorrhoea and in seminal weakness (infusion of bark).

Ficus religiosa

For skin diseases (leaf), dysentery, diarrhea and gonorrhea (bark decoction); in heart arrhythmia and sexual disorders, such as spermatorrhea and premature ejaculation, as an astringent (bark),in anal fistula, ulcer and wounds as an absorbent in inflammatory swellings (dried bark),for inflammatory ulcers (tender fresh leaves),in stomach ache and constipation (ripe fruits). The aerial roots are chewed by women to induce conception.

Gloriosa superba

Antimalarial, increasing the secretion of gastric juices, laxative and as a tonic (tuber); leprosy and anthelmintic (root); to treat arthritis , piles, boils, for extraction of foreign body, for easy delivery, baldness, scrofula and ear diseases (root powder); effective against paralysis, rheumatism, snake bite, insect bites and leaf-juice effective against lice (root-paste). Hemidesmus indicus

Syphilis, leucorrhea and as a snakebite antidote (root); as a tonic, demulcent, diaphoretic, diuretic, in purifying blood, stomach disorders, fever, gonorrhea, nutritional maladies, kidney stones, gravel and other urinary problems, chronic rheumatism and skin diseases, for relieving inflammation in the eye (milky latex); in asthma, bronchitis, gonorrhea and for sore mouths of children (plant).

Hibiscus rosasinensis

Checks bleeding, soothes irritated tissues and relaxes spasms, excessive and painful menstruation, cystitis, gonorrhea, feverish illnesses, bronchial catarrh, coughs, diabetes and to promote hair growth. The flowers are used in the treatment of carbuncles, mumps, fever and sores.

Homonoia riparia

For hemorrhoids, in piles, stone in the bladder, gonorrhoea, syphilis and chest pain (root decoction) and urinary problems (stone of fruit); as a poultice for skin diseases (pounded leaves)

Imperata cylindrica

As a fumigant for piles (rhizome); for diarrhoea, dysentery and gonorrhoea (decoction of rootstocks); to stop bleeding (seeds); for cancer, colds, diarrhea, dysentery gonorrhea, myalgia, night sweats, piles, rheumatism, and tumors (plant)

Ipomoea pes-caprae

Leaves are used as an external application for rheumatism, dropsy and colic. The juice of the leaves is given as a diuretic in dropsy and at the same time the bruised leaves are applied to the dropsical part. The seeds are used as a remedy for stomachache and cramp. The stem juice is applied to bites and stings of fishes. The dried juice of the root is used as a purgative. A decoction of the roots and leaves is used in rheumatism, gout gonorrhoea and dropsy. Juice is given as diuretic in dropsy.

Ixora coccinea

In dysentery, diarrhea and leucorrhea (flower); scabies (aerial part); for sores and ulcers (decoction of flower and bark); used in hiccup, fever, gonorrhoea, loss of appetite and abdominal pain(roots).

Jatropha multifida

Mangifera indica

In rheumatism, diphtheria and diarrhea (bark and flower); diabetes, scalds and burns (leaf); for severe bleeding, catarrh, hemoptysis, external ulcers, toothache and for preventing plaques of the teeth; in cases of diarrhea, chronic dysentery, catarrh of the bladder and chronic urethritis resulting from gonorrhea (dried mango flowers); on cracks in the feet and on scabies, and is used to treat syphilis (resinous gum from the trunk); as vermifuges and as astringents in diarrhea, hemorrhages and bleeding hemorrhoids (kernel decoction and powder); for diarrhea, fever, chest complaints, diabetes, hypertension etc (leaf decoction); scurvy and sthomachache (fruit)

Mollugo cerviana

Reducing fever, as an antiseptic and stimulating the secretion of gastric juices (plant); gout and rheumatism (root); to relieve fevers (flowers and tender shoots). An infusion of the plant promotes lochial discharge and is considered a cure for gonorrhoea.

Nepeta hindostana

Sore throat (decoction), reducing fever, antigonorrheic, syncope, anxiety and a cardiotonic for several heart problems, such as Angina pectoris (plant).

Ocimum basilicum

Sweet basil acts principally on the digestive and nervous systems, easing flatulence, stomach cramps, colic and indigestion. It is taken internally in the treatment of feverish illnesses, poor digestion, nausea, abdominal cramps, gastro-enteritis, migraine, insomnia, depression and exhaustion. Externally, they are used to treat acne, loss of smell, insect stings, snake bites and skin infections. The mucilaginous seed is given in infusion in the treatment of gonorrhoea, dysentery and chronic diarrhoea. It is remove film and opacity from the eyes also. The root is used in the treatment of bowel complaints in children. Extracts from the plant are bactericidal and are also effective against internal parasites.

Opuntia dillenii

Ophthalmia and for boils (leaf); cures biliousness, burning, leucoderma, urinary complaints, tumours, loss of consciousness, piles, inflammations, anaemia, ulcers, gonorrhoea and the enlargement of the spleen (fruit) ; whooping cough (baked fruit); to increase the secretion of bile and control spasmodic cough and expectoration (fruit syrup); in bronchitis and asthma (flower).

Pedalium murex

For external ulcers (leaf); in incontinence of urine, spermatorrhoea, nocturnal emission, impotence, alleviating spasms (fruit) in gonorrhoea and dysuria (stem and leaves infusion).

Phoenix dactylifera

For ague, anemia, asthma, bronchitis, cancer, catarrh, chest, condylomata, cough, diarrhea, eyes, fatigue, fever, flu, gonorrhea, endurations, longevity, piles, pterygia, splenitis, sterility, stomachache, thirst, toothache, tuberculosis, urogenital ailments, vaginitis, virility, warts, and whitlows

Phyllanthus amarus

Jaundice and liver diseases, diabetes, influenza, asthma, infections of the bronchial tubes, indigestion, colic, dropsy, as an astringent, diuretic and disorders of the urogenital system and kidney (plant). The whole plant is used to treat jaundice, chronic dysentery, dyspepsia, cough, asthma, indigestion, diabetes, urinary tract diseases, skin diseases, ulcer, sores and swelling. Whole plant is used in gonorrhoea, menorrhagia and other genital affections. It is also useful in dropsy, jaundice, diarrhoea, dysentery, intermittent fevers, ophthalmopathy, scabies, ulcers and wounds. Young shoots and leaves are given in dysentery and ulcers. Fresh root is an excellent remedy for jaundice. The decoction of the plant is a remedy for intermittent fevers and intermittents with infarcts of the spleen and liver.

Phyllanthus fraternus

Used in gastric complaints including dyspepsia, colic, diarrhoea and dysentery; also employed in dropsy and diseases of urino-genital system, in diabetes (plant); in dysentery (young shoots); for jaundice (fresh roots); as a refrigerant for scalp (leaves decoction); for application on oedematous swellings and ulcers (leaves, roots); to offensive sores and ulcers (latex).

Phyllanthus urinaria

To treat dropsy, gonorrhoea, frequent menstruation, anemia and diabetes and as a poultice for skin ulcers, sores, swelling and itchiness (whole plant); used in jaundice and gonorrhoea (decoction of leaves); in treating kidney and gall stones, the lowering of viral load in hepatitis disease (Dried leaves)

Phyllanthus virgatus

The bruised fresh leaves mixed with buttermilk is used to treat ophthalmia and as a wash to relieve itching. The fresh leaves, flowers and fruits are made into an electuary with cumin seed and sugar to treat gonorrhoea. A preparation of the root is applied to promote healing of mammary abscesses.

Physalis minima

Gonorrhea, as a tonic, diuretic and laxative (fruit). The juice of the leaves is used as a remedy for earache.

Pinellia ternata

Strengthens the spleen, very effective in controlling nausea and vomiting, for coughs with thin watery phlegm and gastritis (root); To treat cancer, depression, dermatosis, diarrhea, dyspepsia, gonorrhea, headache, hiccup, insomnia, jaundice , leukemia, leukorrhea, nausea, nephrosis, pharyngosis, psoriasis, rheumatism, snakebite.

Piper cubeba

Asthma (fruit); in gonorrhea, gleet and inflammation of the bladder.

Piper methysticum

For skin complaints, loss of appetite, in the treatment of rheumatism, menstrual problems, venereal disease, tuberculosis and even leprosy

Piper nigrum

In malaria, as a diuretic and in various gastrointestinal problems (fruit), cancer (especially that of the nose), corns, gonorrhea, headache, sores, swellings, cholera, craw-craw and dhobey itch, as an aromatic stimulant for disorders such as coma, good for constipation, also on the urinary organs; externally it is a rubefacient, useful in relaxed conditions of the rectum when prolapsed.

Pongamia pinnata

As a tonic (seed) and in hemorrhoids (stem bark); chronic fevers, rheumatism, lumbago, herpes, scabies, leucoderma and other skin diseases, flatulence, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, cough, leprosy and gonorrhoea (plant); on the head to heal ulcers and cure dandruff (leaf paste); used for cleaning sores, as well as for cleaning teeth and strengthening gums (root juice).

Portulaca oleracea

For maladies of the ear, spleen, kidney and liver, anitgonorrheic and purifying blood (plant); burns, diabetes, diarrhea, dysentery, indigestion, hypotension, insomnia, ophthalmia, heart palpitations, scurvy, skin ailments (plant); in preventing heart attacks and strengthening the immune system, applied to burns (leaves); in the treatment of strangury, coughs, sores etc and are particularly effective in the treatment of skin diseases and insect stings (plant juice); to earaches, to alleviate insect stings (leaf juice); in dyspepsia, worm troubles and opacities of the cornea (seed).

Premna integrifolia

The decoction of the root is said to be a cordial, stomachic and useful in liver disorders. It forms an ingredient of Dasamoola. A decoction of the leaves is used in the treatment of colic and flatulence while that of the tender plants is used for rheumatism and neuralgia. The leaves are rubbed along with pepper and administered in cold and fever, also in gonorrhoea and during convalescence from fevers.

Salvadora persica

Against gonorrhoea and vesical catarrh (root bark); to relieve the pain due to spleen troubles (root); for gastric troubles especially in gastric ulcers (stem bark); in asthma and cough, in rheumatism, a poultice made out of them is applied to painful tumours and piles (leaves); in biliousness and rheumatism (fruits).

Salvia aegyptiaca

In hemorrhoids, as a demulcent, antigonorrheic and antidiarrheal (seed).

Salvia plebeia

As an anthelmintic, diuretic and astringent (plant); for alleviating spasms and as a tonic, in treating diarrhoea, gonorrhoea, menorrhagia and haemorrhoids (seed); relieving toothache pain (leaf).

Santalum album

Chronic bronchitis, gonorrhoea, gleet, in chronic cystitis, vomiting and stomach-ache, to burns; in fevers and headache (wood paste). The oil is active against Eberthella typhosa and Escherichia coli. The oil from the seeds is used in skin troubles.

Schisandra chinensis

Harmonize processes of the internal organs and help control the balance of the body's physiological processes, promotes endurance, anti-aging; in the treatment of dry coughs, asthma, night sweats, urinary disorders, involuntary ejaculation, chronic diarrhoea, palpitations, insomnia, poor memory, hyperacidity, hepatitis and diabetes (fruit); in the treatment of cancer (seeds); in the treatment of coughs, dysentery and gonorrhoea (mucilaginous decoction from the branches).

Securinega virosa

Gonorrhea, to induce sleep in children and for fever (root); for the treatment of fever, in infected sores (leaf); in diarrhoea and pneumonia (bark)

Shorea robusta

The resin obtained from the plant is considered as astringent and detergent and is used in dysentery and for fumigating the rooms of sicks. Its resin with honey or sugar is given in dysentery and bleeding piles. This is also given in gonorrhoea and for weak digestion. Its bark decoction is used as drops in ear problems. Besides, its fruits are also used in diarrhoea.

Sida acuta

To treat nervous and urinary diseases and disorders of the blood and bile (root). Intensely bitter, it is used as an infusion and in conjunction with ginger to treat intermittent fever; it is also used as a stomachic, to treat chronic bowel complaints, and as an aphrodisiac; as panacea for rheumatism (whole plant).The leaves, warmed and moistened with sesame seed oil, are used to hasten suppuration and painful boils; in haemorrhoids, fevers, impotency, gonorrhea and rheumatism (roots and leaves).

Sida rhombifolia

It is used for gonorrhoea and ophthalmic disorders in Ayurveda. Unani employs it for piles, gonorrhoea, anti-soud, and as diuretic and aphrodisiac. Root of these herbs are held in great repute in treatment of rheumatism. Stems abound in mucilage and are employed as demulcents and emollients both for external and internal use. The herb is also useful in calculous troubles and as a febrifuge with pepper. Mucilage is used for scorpion sting.

Sida spinosa

As a tonic, in mild cases of debility and fever (root); in gonorrhea, gleet and scalding urine (leaf); as a demulcent (leaf and root); in diabetes (plant).

Solanum xanthocarpum

Cough, asthma, bronchitits, dropsy, leprosy, constipation, flatulence, sore throat, tonsilitis, gum diseases, snake bites, heart disease, chest pain, certain types of fever, muscular pains, gonorrhoea, dysuria, enlargement of the liver and spleen and stomach. Leaves are applied locally to relieve pain. The juice of berries is used in sore throat. Like roots, seeds are also administered as an expectorant in asthma and cough. The plant is credited with diuretic properties and is used to cure dropsy. Its juice is mixed with whey and ginger and given in fevers. The juice of the leaves, mixed with black pepper, is prescribed in rheumatism.

Solena amplexicaulis

In spermatorrhea, gonorrhea and as a stimulant (root); antiinflammatory (leaf).

Thespesia lampas

For treating gonorrhoea and syphilis (roots and fruits); in ulcers (powdered bark)

Toona sinensis

Used to treat red spots on skin and as a remedy for gynecological troubles, including irregular menses (bark); to treat diarrhoea, chronic dysentery, flatulence, bloody stools, seminal emissions, leucorrhoea, metrorrhagia and gonorrhoea (decoction of bark); used to cool and to promote urination (powdered roots); chewed to stimulate digestion (young leaves).

Tribulus terrestris

In painful urination and impotency (fruit); in treating impotency in males, nocturnal emissions, gonorrhoea, painful urination, gout, consumption, kidney problems (including kidney stones) and incontinence of urine (decoction of seed); in treating cancer and to promote hair-growth (plant); gas, headache, ophthalmia and stomatitis (dried fruit). It is being studied as a potential herbal remedy against AIDS.

Uncaria tomentosa

For intestinal ailments (Crohn's disease, gastric ulcers and tumors, parasites, colitis, gastritis, diverticulitis and leaky bowel syndrome); arthritis, rheumatism, diabetes, PMS, chronic fatigue syndrome, diarrhea, gonorrhea, acne, diseases of the urinary tract and cancers.

Uraria picta

For healing bone fractures and for the treatment of urinary diseases, tumours, oedema, burning sensation and difficult breathing (plant); to treat gonorrhoea (leaves); as an antidote for snake bite, in the treatment of anal prolapse in infants (root); for cough, chills and fevers (decoction); to treat sore mouth in children (pods).

Vaccinium vitis-idaea

In urinary tract infections; in the treatment of gonorrhoea, arthritis, rheumatism, diabetes and diarrhoea (leaves); for diarrhoea and as a treatment for sore throats, coughs and colds (mature fruits); as a gargle in treatment for sore throats (juice of the plant).

Veratrum viride

Cures puerperal fever, phthisis pulmonalis, acute rheumatism, gastric irritation, colic, tetanus, acute gonorrhea, active cerebral engorgement, exophthalmic goiter with tachycardia, aneurism, acute cases of pneumonia, peritonitis, threatened apoplexy, chronic coughs, constipation, for bruises, sprains, fractures, to treat aches and pains

Vitex negundo

As a demulcent (in the sinuses) and on sores (related to scrofula) (oil); in gonorrhea, rheumatism, sprains, fever (related to catarrh) and headache (leaf); aids in the removal of worms and foetid discharges from ulcers (leaf juice), controls acne in teenagers, regulates ovulatory cycle, menopause, menorrhagia (heavy menstruation), menstrual difficulties (secondary amenorrhea), premenstrual syndrome, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea and endometriosis and fibrocystic breast disease among women, relieves pains due to rheumatism, gout, sciatica and the body ache resulted from heavy physical exertion, skin troubles, migraine; with the right proportion it is use for dental care for healthy, disease free teeth, as mouth wash and treatment for toothache. Pillows stuffed with leaves are slept on to remove catarrh and headache. Dried fruit is used to destroy human worm while seeds boiled in water and eaten, or the water is taken internally, to prevent spread of toxins from poisonous bites of animals, also cooling for skin disorders.

For vomiting, swellings, gonorrhoea, diarrhoea and ulcers (bark powder); in rheumatism, leprosy, piles, and ulcers (seed oil)
